Welcome to The Squire’s Landing a two-story, waterfront microbrewery and restaurant perched at Circular Quay, right in the heart of Sydney Harbour.
With sweeping views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, this is James Squire’s flagship brewhouse and one of the most iconic spots in the country to enjoy a craft beer. Downstairs, our working microbrewery (aka The Brewhouse) produces small-batch brews you can watch being made, fresh on site. Upstairs, our elegant Waterfront Restaurant offers upscale dining framed by floor-to-ceiling windows and unbeatable harbour views.
Whether you’re here for a casual pint or a memorable long lunch, you’ll experience a true celebration of Australian brewing and hospitality.
While our venue may be modern, it lives within one of Sydney’s most historic precincts- the Overseas Passenger Terminal, opened in 1960 to welcome post-WWII cruise liners to Australian shores.
Before becoming The Squire’s Landing, this very space housed the second home of the legendary Doyle’s seafood restaurant – a beloved Sydney name since the Watson’s Bay original opened in 1885.
We’re proud to be part of the Circular Quay Renewal project by Transport for NSW – a bold revitalisation if the habourfront, featuring promenade upgrades, station refurbishments, cultural spaces, and more.
The Squire’s Landing pays tribute to James Squire, Australia’s first commercial brewer. A convict turned entrepreneur, James arrived on the First Fleet in 1788 and went on to successfully cultivate hops and create some of the colony’s earliest beers. He helped shape a brewing tradition that would span centuries.
In 1998, American-born brewer Chuck Hahn revived Squire’s legacy by launching the James Squire beer range. Chuck who also created Coors Light, Hahn Superdry, and Kosciuzsko Pale Ale is a pioneer of Australia’s craft beer movement, often hailed as “the godfather of Australian craft brewing”.
At our venue, we keep this legacy alive. You’ll find tribute wall engraved with the names of James and other First Fleet passengers from The Friendship, The Charlotte, and The Lady Penrhyn.
We’re here to make people feel welcome like your favourite local pub, just with world-class views and exceptional beer.
Craft brewing is at the heart of what we do. Our glass-encased microbrewery is a standout feature designed as a sculptural element that’s as beautiful as it is functional. It’s home to our Head Brewer, Jack Fox, who creates exclusive small-batch releases in collaboration with Malt Shovel Brewery team. Jack follows in the footsteps of industry talents like Pete Meriton and Rob Freshwater, who helped launch and shape our brewing story.
Enjoy signature brews alongside a menu that’s both elevated and approachable:
Planning an event? We offer eight function areas across both levels, with space suited to private celebrations, corporate gatherings, and everything in between.
The Squire’s Landing is more than a venue, we’re part of the Sydney community. We proudly support StreetKind, a grassroots initiative of volunteers offering safe support to people out late in the city. On weekends, StreetKind helps with everything from phone charges to water and safe escorts. Our team keeps volunteers fuelled with free coffee, drinks and snacks.
In 2023, our Venue Manager, Ryan Chaim, was invited to represent us at a special ceremony at Kirribilli House, where Governor-General David Hurley recognised our contributions.
We also team up with Pont3, organisers of the Sydney Marathon and Sydney Harbour 10K. Every July, we become the unofficial post-race spot for runners and supporters – hosting the afterparty just steps from the finish line.
We’re committed to supporting organisations that do good – and making The Squire’s Landing a place that gives back.
Before becoming part of the Australian Venue Co. family, The Squire’s Landing was developed as a partnership between hospitality group Mantle Group and beverage leader Lion home of the James Squire beer brand. The fit-out was brought to life by Xenia Constructions, with award-winning architecture by Collins & Turner.
Today, as part of AVC, we carry this legacy forward combining world-class beer, standout food, and an iconic Sydney location to deliver unforgettable experiences every day.
